When applying for an Ontario Building Code (OBC) sewage system permit, the OBC prescribed application forms satisfy regulatory requirements, but they do not capture the detailed technical information required to properly document and review a proposed sewage system. To address this gap, sewage system regulators across the province have developed their own methods for collecting additional information ranging from simple checklists to multi-page prescriptive forms. This has resulted in significant inconsistency in the application process from one jurisdiction to another, a challenge that many of our members have identified through their feedback. One of the Association’s roles is to listen to our members and work collaboratively to improve industry practices. In response to this feedback, the Onsite Technical Committee established a task group to develop a standardized sewage system application form. The result is a comprehensive sewage system form intended to be used by, or as a guide for, regulators on the key design information required to properly assess a sewage system design, to supplement the OBC prescribed forms, while promoting consistency across the province. This form is intended to be a living document, and we welcome ongoing feedback on how it can be improved. Our hope is that regulators will adopt this form as presented, helping to create a more consistent, transparent, and efficient application process for our industry.
We welcome your feedback on this form and request that you submit it to info@oowa.org by May 22, 2026. After the feedback period we will provide fillable forms, potentially with auto-calculation capabilities.
