As part of the Communications committee 2023 Workplan, we are excited to announce the release of OOWA’s fourth industry related video resource that covers the basics of installing of a conventional septic tank and in-ground filter bed on the shores of Georgian Bay. In this video we walk you through the initial site works, the excavation for and installation of the septic tank, the excavation of the base of the filter bed, the placement of the filter sand, stone, pipe and filter cloth, the steel bars for future detection of the bed and backfilling of the entire system. This video has been created by the Ontario Onsite Wastewater Association in partnership with the property owners, Father and Son Construction, Onsite Septic Solutions, Tatham Engineering, and the Township of Tiny. At the 2024 convention, we asked current members why they continue to support the Association, how they feel about OOWA, and what they perceive as the benefits of being a part of our community. The objective of creating this video was to provide more information about who OOWA is, what we do for our members, and why you should be one. OOWA’s Regional Meetings are an opportunity for members and non-members alike from across the province to come together, network and learn from each other.

There are approximately 1.2 million residential on-site wastewater treatment systems in use in Ontario. A quarter of these are located directly adjacent to the lakes and rivers of the Great Lakes Basin. This webinar is an overview of a recently completed project by multiple stakeholders to explore successes, challenges & lessons learned from existing municipal septic re-inspection programs across Ontario, and a review of the legal context for managing rural wastewater.
