Finding the Well & Septic system

Rural properties are typically serviced by a private well and septic system, which may not be areas of knowledge common for all home buyers. Potential homebuyers should both educate and protect themselves and their future investment by doing their homework and identifying what infrastructure is on the property, and the condition it is in.

A modern well or a drilled well is usually easily found as most typically come above ground-level and can be identified by a steel pipe and cap. A well may also be ‘dug’ or ‘bored’, in which case it may be constructed of concrete well tiles. Septic systems may be more difficult to locate as they are typically buried underground and may be out-dated without access risers to grade.
